Can you guess whose birthday is coming up?! Evi is turning FOUR, you guys!!! I don't know where the time went. She is hurdling through childhood and I'm feeling all kinds of nostalgia about it. She did, however, give me the consolation prize of choosing a fabulous party theme this year: rainbow unicorns!
I have so many details prepared for this party that I want to share, but the first is this unicorn headband DIY! I've seen a few of these tutorials floating around Pinterest, but none of them were very comprehensive so I decided to create a step-by-step guide. Excuse the poor picture quality--I took these photos with my (apparently very antiquated) iPhone 5s because my DSLR battery wasn't charged and I had a very short window of opportunity to get these done before school pickup :D.
The only materials you need for this project are felt (buy it by the yard from a fabric store like Joann's rather than in those little 8x10 sheets--it's much cheaper!), satin headbands, round elastic, scissors and a hot glue gun. I found a bulk pack of satin headbands in a variety of colors for around ten dollars on Amazon, and I spent maybe five dollars on felt and another two dollars on the elastic. Seventeen dollars to make six of these beauties (with supplies left over) is such a deal!
A note on choosing headbands: in the past I've purchased metal headbands so that I could wrap them myself in whatever material matched my project, but these satin headbands are MUCH easier to work with and very comfy on little heads. There are a variety of color combinations available on Amazon, so from now on I will definitely be using these.
You can customize these in so many fun ways by adding more flowers or changing the colors; I think that if I'd had more time I would have tried a few different styles. Ah well, there's plenty of time for that later, I suppose! Anyway, I hope you've found this little tutorial helpful! Thanks for stopping by and, as always, happy crafting!
